Taking control of your pain

Take the mystery pain online questionnaire

When you accept that your chronic pain is real, you are taking the first step to controlling it. Once you can describe your pain clearly and accurately it may be easier to talk to others about it. This will help you to understand your pain and you may find that it is easier to discuss it with your doctor.

Talk to your doctor about the best way to manage your pain

As you begin to understand your pain, talk to your doctor about it. You may already have discussed it with them, but if your current treatment does not reduce your pain then you should return to discuss it again. You may be prescribed a new treatment or referred to a pain specialist or to a clinic specialising in treating pain.

Neuropathic pain needs long-term management

Because damaged nerves rarely heal fully you may experience the pain over a long period of time. Modern pain management techniques can considerably reduce the pain you feel. Your doctor can advise you on treatments and techniques which should help you to take an active part in every day life.
